First Striper of the year on a Sage Method 7119-4, 475 Skagit Max short, 10 ft of t8 and a black and purple sparse tied beast master general variant. The tug is the drug. On a quick trip to St Pete Fl I got out to dock lights fish. We use 6 to 9 wt rods floating lines and our Dock Lights Special fly in a size 4. Flouro is a must. In the clear early spring water we used 20lb.
The fish in this small tailwater fight so hard. these fish are so healthy. They had red adipose and caudal fins. check out the halos on those spots.
I am pleased to announce that I will be leading a 6 week fly tying class at A Marblehead Flyfisher on Thursdays in January and February. We will be tying some of my favorite patterns I use up and down the east coast. heck out the description from the A Marblehead Flyfisher website below or click here to go directly to the classes page I'm not an ice fishing guy but the size of this fish and the super clear ice make this a very cool video. Check it out. A big thanks to Jose for alerting me to this video. |
