I had a great day out on a wild brown trout stream with my buddy Ryan. I have to credit him for the great pix and vid here. We were hoping to get into some good hatches but that really didn't happen. I fished a Fenwick 706 which is a 7 ft 5/6 wt rod. I used a 5 wt weight forward line and a long leader with a big stimmy and a long dropper with various heavily weighted nymphs. Ryan fished an 8 ft 6 wt Fenwick Glass rod with 6 wt wt forward line.
I picked up 3 Fenwick glass rods. I am really looking forward to putting them to work. They are models FF79, an 8 ft 6 wt, FF706, a 7 ft 6 wt and FF 9010, a 9 ft 10wt with a detachable lower grip. I think the 7 fter is going to be the most useful. I really want to try out some various weight forward and dt lines on the shorter rods. I am also looking forward to trying out some of my skagit set ups on the big rod. I am hoping that it will be like some sort of mini low budget Fiberhammer. I am all ears if anyone out there has any advice or info on any of these rods. I will put up reviews and pix later on.
I would like to give a shot Cameron Mortenson over at http://thefiberglassmanifesto.blogspot.com/ for getting interested in glass. I would also like to thank who ever put up this wiki http://fiberglass-fly-rods.pbworks.com/w/page/5182977/Fenwick for providing some info on Fenwick rods.
