|Powers Fly Fishing||
G. Loomis Pro Tim O'neill and I went out Shad fishing at an undisclosed location. He was dialing a ndew G. Loois Roaring RIver GLX 11ft 7wt switch rod. He was rigged with a 425 gr Rio Skagit Flight. I used my 12 ft 6 in 400 gr 5/6 G. Loomis Versispey rigged with 350 Rio Scandi. He used an itermidiate Versileadrer and I used a medium sinking Versileader.
We caught a bunch of fish that morning and also eneded up taking some cool photos. There is something fun about watching the city wake up with the river roaring around us.
I learned from steelheading that fish will often hold in the secondary areas adjacent to the deeper more traditonal holding spots. Whether it is people activity or birds the fish will move to the least disturbed areas. In this case I believe that the tree cover and lack of good ambush rocks protected these fish from osprey and heron despite the lack of depth.
We caught a bunch of hickories after moving around and finding a slug of fish that we hard to get to. Over the next series of days I came back and hit the fish. Below you can see the S. flies we used to catch the Hickories. Our secret color combo is not shown below.
