These shop rats are a strange bunch. If you would like to check out and purchase this and other New Sage rods you can visit A Marblehead Flyfisher.
There goes the neighborhood. I'll never understand why people would want to go and pay the same price for products and get worse service. I think to some the perception of saving a buck is more important that actually saving a buck. I'll admit I am no expert on hunting but I have been in a few fly fishing and tackle shops in my day. I value the expert advice that I receive by the owners and employees of these small businesses. The manufacturers set their own prices for items. You may find crappy Chinese made no name or Cabelas branded rods at a low price but your Sage rod or Simms waders will const you the same at Cabelas or at your local fly shop. Big box stores are notorious for paying low wages and not providing benefits to their unskilled labor force. The money also leaves our local economy. I want the money I spend to go into the pockets of my neighbors and friends. Think about how the home depots of the world put the small mom and pop hardware stores out of business. Remember when you could go and find just the screw you needed and if he didn't have it he knew just where to get it. Or better yet he knew off a different screw that would suit your purposes better at a low price..... You get the picture. Ata big box store what they have is what they have. The people tune out and jobs and places we value go away. its a loose loose. I welcome peoples comments.
***Update*** Check out this discussion from Spey Pages on the One. Sounds likr the 4 switch was the big hit. http://speypages.com/speyclave/showthread.php?t=58085&page=2 Having cast the single hander 9ft 5 wt Sage one rod I can say they are incredible. I can’t wait to cast the Spey and Switch models that are sure to come out soon. Below I have listed a bunch of places advertising Sage one switch and Spey rods for sale, some vids, pics and interviews about the One. One word to the wise. At $900 you should buy your rod from Terry at A Marblehead Flyfisher in Centerville, Delaware. Remember folks Delaware is the home of tax free shopping. The shop phone is 302 654 6515. Drop him a call. He will get you what you need! Well, Terry knocked it out of the park again! Building upon the success of the winter open house Terry, Tim and Mary Ann put on other open house at A Marblehead Flyfisher. The event was well attaned and Mary Ann kept the food coming. I am always happy to see Mary Ann but I am even happier when I know Mary Ann will have food. This time Terry invited Loomis rep Dick Kondak to come. I really enjoyed meeting Dick. You know our industry just has the nicest people. He brought many rods for everyone to try out. I cast several rods including a pro 4x pft 4 and 5 wt, NRX 9ft 5 and 6 wt and the full line up of Roaring River GLX Switch Rods. The highlights for me were the 5 wt NRX. I was able to cast the entire line plus a TON of backing. It threw super tight loops. I was really impresses on my loop compactness and integrity even while casting into the wind. I also spent a bunch of time with the 5 and 8 wt Roaring River GLX Switch Rods. The lightness in hand of the 8 was shocking. Both rods had one of those all in one switch lines. I think I would have liked a lighter line on the 5. It seemed too soft to me. After my experience with the Rio Scandi this weekend I would love to try some of those out on the 5. Check out the two handed wizard below! I was happy that my wife, baby and father in law could come out. Ryan Brown even drove up from DC to get new waders and boots. I have included a video below of him casting one of the switch rods. I think he did a bang up job for his first time with a two hander. If you have not made it out to one of these events you are really missing out on seeing some great gear and hanging out with super cool people. What did I miss guys? Please comment below.
G.Loomis Sales rep Dick Kondak will be there with all the new Loomis rods to cast. It should be a good time. The last open house was a blast. Rick will even be there!
I will keep adding and subtracting from this up until the trip. I need to tie more sucker spawn. I will be updating my tube flies with the new components and techniques I learned last weekend at the open house at A Marblehead Flyfisher from Spirit River's Andrew Niethe.
